Safe and Affordable Housing
July 2025
A safe, stable home is the foundation for a healthy, thriving life. Yet for too many individuals and families in Central Indiana, housing instability, high rent burdens, and the looming threat of eviction or homelessness are daily realities. The high cost of secure, affordable housing remains out of reach for thousands across our region.
United Way of Central Indiana is committed to changing this. Through a robust network of more than 45 partner organizations, we provide critical services that help Hoosiers access and maintain housing, ranging from emergency shelter and rental assistance to eviction prevention and long term supportive services.
Our strategic approach to housing focuses on three goals: helping households move further from housing insecurity, increasing the supply of affordable housing, and fostering innovation that empowers families to remain stably housed. This investing in housing development through innovative financial tools, supporting local housing coalitions and policy advocacy, and launching educational campaigns to reshape public understanding of housing needs.
By 2028, United Way aims to help 3,000 households across Central Indiana obtain permanent, safe, and affordable housing. The snapshot below highlights key data and the measurable impact of the programs and partnerships that are advancing housing stability for our most vulnerable neighbors.
