After losing her husband too soon to congestive heart failure, “Susan” wasn’t ready to face the same fate herself. If she wanted a happy, healthy life, she knew the time to act was now. So, she joined the Barbara B. Jordan YMCA.

United Way of Central Indiana (UWCI) has named Christina Hage as its new Vice President of Public Policy.  She will provide leadership for UWCI’s public policy and governmental affairs work at the federal, state and local levels.

When Abby began volunteering as a United Way ReadUP tutor, she was partnered with Aries. “My first day I was very, very nervous and unsure of what to expect,” Abby admitted. But Aries’ lively and funny personality quickly put her to ease. Abby couldn’t wait to get to started.

United Way of Central Indiana is searching for volunteers to become tax preparers for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA). The program offers online and in-person tax filing services in Marion, Hendricks, Morgan and Boone Counties for taxpayers who earned $64,000 or less in 2016.

United Way of Central teamed up with the Indianapolis Colts to host The BIG Kickoff on Friday, September 9, 2016. During the presentations 15 organizations that help the homeless were presented with housewarming baskets for clients who are moving into their first homes.

Arthur had worked for the same company nearly his entire working life. He didn’t stay that long because he necessarily loved his job, but it paid the bills and he knew if he was loyal to his company, his company would be loyal to him. But when the recession hit and the company had to start making cuts, Arthur was let go and left to figure out what was next.
