Grants totaling $235,000 awarded through Power to the Parent Fund

United Way of Central Indiana has awarded $235,000 in grants to 12 nonprofits, funding that will help eliminate barriers for families and support child care, housing, mental health and mentorship for Hoosiers across the region.

United Way’s Parent Advisory Council awarded the grants from its Power to the Parent Fund. Council members selected four areas of need in the community they wanted to address: child care support; housing support; mental health and mentorship; and eliminating emergent barriers for families.

"We are humbled and grateful for United Way of Central Indiana’s investment in DREAM Alive through the Power to the Parent Fund,” said Eric Muller, president and CEO of DREAM Alive, which mentors vulnerable Indianapolis youth from sixth grade through high school graduation. “This partnership allows us to deepen our impact, providing consistent mentoring and mental health support for our scholars daily, for seven consecutive years.”

United Way launched the Parent Advisory Council in 2022 with the goals of strengthening parent leaders and incorporating their voices into decision-making. The council, composed of 15 parents and caregivers, has awarded grants for four years.
