Fit
City Youth Campaign
Did you know almost 14 million children in theUnited
States between the ages of 2 and 17 are obese
and another 8.6 million are at risk of becoming
obese? Unfortunately, there are a lot of Hoosier
kids included in those numbers.*
Central Indiana youth have an opportunity to help
reduce obesity and help their peers become more
fit. Youth as Resources has grants available for
volunteer groups who identify peer groups in need
and develop activities to assist in increasing
physical activity, adopting healthier eating habits
and losing excess weight.
Volunteers will include youth, ages 8-21, recruited
through youth-serving and faith-based organizations,
schools, correctional facilities, community centers
and public housing communities. The activities
will occur in all six counties in the United Way
of Central Indian service area. Grants of up to
$2,000 will be made to support project activities.
Grant funds have been made available from the
United Way Targeted Initiatives Fund, and are
in collaboration with the Indianapolis Fit City
campaign. For more information, contact 317.920.2562
