Vision & Values
United Way of Central Indiana helps improve lives and build stronger communities through our support of innovative, practical and efficient human services programs and partners that address local needs. We assess community conditions and bring together the best resources in Central Indiana in order to provide help where it’s needed most. United Way of Central Indiana supports the entire community, providing solutions that address today’s needs and reduce tomorrow’s.
Community priorities
United Way of Central Indiana has volunteer committees, comprised of dedicated community leaders, to help guide our work.
The Human Services Committee focuses on supporting our more than 100 agencies that help to address today’s needs.
The Ready to Learn, Ready to Earn Committee develops and oversees strategies that:
- Help young children get ready for school.
- Help school-age children and youth succeed in the classroom.
- Help all students graduate from high school and move on to postsecondary education and training or work.
- Help to reduce tomorrow's needs.
History
We’ve been meeting local needs since 1918, when United Way of Central Indiana was founded as the War Chest. We’ve undergone several name changes since then, but our commitment to improving lives has never changed. Learn more about United Way’s history here in Central Indiana.
Leadership

Accountability and Financials
United Way Worldwide
United Way Worldwide is a national network of more than 1,300 locally governed organizations that work to create lasting changes in communities and people’s lives. United Way of America makes no policies for United Way of Central Indiana. It has membership requirements and sets standards of excellence for local United Ways.
United Way of Central Indiana operates in Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Marion and Morgan counties. We have a local, volunteer board of directors and local volunteers. They identify, plan and carry out community-building and fundraising activities for health and human care solutions here in Central Indiana.
