What is the Early Readers Club?

United Way of Central Indiana’s Success By 6 initiative launched Dolly Parton's Imagination Library in January 2006. Since then, United Way has provided more than 300,000 books to over 20,000 children across central Indiana. In 2008, United Way made changes to its early literacy program in order to provide books to even more children.

This new program, the Early Readers ClubSM, encourages parents and caregivers to read to their child starting day one. Families can register to receive 12 high-quality children’s books (view the list) each year until the child’s sixth birthday, providing countless opportunities for kids and parents to read together. The Early Readers Club currently serves children in Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Marion and Morgan counties.
