United Way of Central Indiana - Addressing Today's Needs. Reducing Tomorrow's.

What do you really know about your child’s day care?

United Way of Central Indiana is working with partners to improve the supply of and demand for quality child care. Parents must be better informed about the importance of safe, early learning environments and availability of quality child care options. Laws must change to ensure parents have those options available to them in order to help our children grow, develop and learn.

Did you know that unlicensed child care providers are:

  • Not required to provide hand-washing sinks in the classroom?
  • Not required to limit time spent in front of the TV?
  • Not required to do federal criminal background checks on staff?
  • Not required to limit the number of kids in a room?
  • Not required to supervise children?

A Paths to QUALITY provider:

  • Is clean and safe.
  • Has teachers credentialed with specialized training.
  • Provides healthy meals and snacks.
  • Has an enclosed outdoor play area.
  • Provides curriculum preparing children for kindergarten.
  • Limits the number of kids in a room.

United Way supports policies that improve the quality of child care available to working families. Children have the right to high-quality care to ensure their safety and that they enter school ready to learn. Tell your state representative and senator to ensure state-funded child care programs meet minimal health and safety standards. This includes anyone who takes CCDF vouchers.
