Youth as Resources Boone County - unleashing the power of youth!

In 2012, Boone County Youth as Resources distributed $7,669 to 11 youth groups to carry out youth-directed and implemented volunteer service projects. These projects included hunger and literacy initiatives, as well as a mentoring program for high school freshmen and an art program for children. Youth and adults work together, volunteering their time and talents to assist more than 1,000 people in Boone County.

Boone County Youth as Resources was established in January of 1996. Since that time there has been a total of:

  • 208 Youth as Resources projects funded
  • 5,731 youth volunteers
  • $171,519 dollars awarded

SEVEN EASY STEPS TO CREATING A YAR PROJECT

  1. Gather an adult project leader and at least three youth for your project team. Obtain a nonprofit sponsor for your group.
  2. Research community needs.
  3. Brainstorm project ideas that address an identified community need.
  4. Attend a grant workshop or contact Amy Hammerle to arrange an individual session for your group.
  5. Plan your project and create the budget.
  6. Complete a Youth as Resources grant application and submit it by the deadline.
  7. Attend the grant screening to share your project idea with the Youth as Resources Action Board.

Boone County grants may range up to $800. Grant workshops will be held in Lebanon, Thorntown and Zionsville prior to the application deadline. Youth and adult representatives from the applying group must attend one of the workshop sessions in order to apply.

Dates and locations for Boone County's upcoming grant workshops are coming soon.
